The art of LIM

“Poissons des grottes” styrocut, handprinted on Manilla.

The art of LIM. LIM stands for “less is more“. From architecture to painting and poetry, it is a movement also known as minimalism.

To me, LIM  is getting to the essential, in a few strokes and no coming back. The difficult part being no coming back. Refraining the urge to fiddle more and more, add more shadows, elongate a few lines…restraining that feeling of anxiety that translate into adding more.

l’art du peu: LIM, less is more,  ou moins c’est plus.

Tintin meets Spielberg

Tintin meets Spielberg and the result is great. Tintin, like Astérix, Gaston, Lucky Luke , was one of my childhood companion. I loved looking over and over at the illustations, the details, the perfect lines. I loved the adventures.

In the movie , The adventures of Tintin, I got the same feeling as in the albums: action,  beautiful graphic images, lots of details, amazing backgrounds. The only minus would be how Milou / Snowy is drawn, a bit too fluffy, to my taste.

In 2012…

Sue Hawkins Shitao

In 2012, I would like to be more persistent. Stick with a medium  for more than 2 or 3 attempts. 10 seems like a good number, so I will do 10 or more before trying  an other one.

Above, the first two in ink and gouache, as I could not stick to ink alone…
