Like a runner likes to run I like to draw. The act of drawing;  acknowledging  this made me draw more, draw without questions. I draw from magazines, from tv, from real, from imagination. It does not matter anymore where it is as long as it  catches my eye.

J’aime dessiner, comme un coureur aime courir. L’acte de dessiner; et le reconnaissant cela m’a permis de dessiner sans questionnement. Je dessine d’après des magazines,  la télé, du réel, d’imagination. La source n’est plus importante maintenant si mon oeil y est attiré.

Real tomatoes, grown outside…why do they bother growing them in winter? For the money, I know, not for the taste… After splashing them with red and yellow, I saw that it just went right through the paper. On the verso, I saw blood, pools of blood and it reminded me of the film we saw of Genghis Khan, unifying Mongolia with a sea of blood.

De vrais tomates poussant au grand air…poourquoi se compliquer la vie en les cultivant en hiver? Je sais, pour l’argent, pas pour le gout…après les avoir arrosées copieusement de rouge et de jaune j’ai vu que ça avait traversé le papier. Sur le verso c’était une mer de sang et cela m’a rappellé la mer de sang de Genghis Khan pour unifier la Mongolie  ( d’après un film vu recemment).

16 aout_0002Sunday morning was so hot, for Montreal, that it was like being on vacation somewhere exotic. I had a spare moment and the idea of being alone with my sketchbooks. But  what to draw? What to draw? The EDM challenge was like a lifesaver, I just hang on it, drawing in the sun, then I drew the garden, and because it was a new sketchbook did the first page. It is the first time I am doing a first page and also gave a title, “30 degrees, chez Ben”.

Il faisait si chaud, dimanche matin, on se serait cru en vacances dans un coin exotique. J’avais un moment, et l’envie de passer un peu de temps dans mes carnets de dessins. Mais quoi dessiner? Quoi dessiner? Le challenge EDM a été comme une bouée que j’ai agrippée. J’ai dessiné au soleil, ma paume de main puis le jardin et comme je commençais un nouveau carnet, la première page. C’est la première fois que je fais une première page et que je donne un titre ” 30 degrés, chez Ben”

In an art discussion with my son, he pointed out that I only draw what I like, adding ” drawing is drawing, what ever the subject”. He has a very good point. Thinking about it  the first avoided subject that came to my mind was cars. I have more affinities with nature than mechanical things.  Here are some attempts of drawing what ever is the subject=portraits of cars. The first one is getting over the challenge as fast as possible. In the second one I tried applying the same techniques I use normally in figure drawing. There are so many cars waiting for their portrait, no problems to keep practicing…

Au cours d’une discussion artistique avec mon fils, il m’a fait remarquer que je ne dessine que ce qui me plait, en ajoutant “dessiner c’est dessiner, peut importe le sujet”. Trés bonne remarque. En y repensant  j’ai tout  de suite vu que les voitures ne m’attirent pas, ayant plus d’affinitées avec la nature qu’avec les choses mécaniques. Voici des tentatives de dessiner des peu importe le sujet: portraits d’autos. Le premier, c’est d’en finir aussi vite que possible avec l’exercice. Dans le 2e, j’ai essayé d’appliquer les mêmes techniques que j’utilise en modèle vivant . Il ya tellement de voitures qui attendent leur portrait, pas de problèmes pour pratiquer…
