Cardboard as canvas

I always loved cardboard, and as a canvas has many advantage, light and strong, textured, neutral backgroound colour and many times free.

To paint or not to paint?

Once the objects are done, the next question is to paint or not? Painting or applying a finish brings new questions. Why, what, how? An other exploration.

Une fois les objets faits vient la finition. Peindre ou non? Et cela amène de nouvelles questions. Pourquoi, comment et quoi? Une nouvelle exploration.

Creative drawing

 

To express ourselves in visual art,  we have so many possibilities, so many mediums to choose from. We also have so many techniques, way of thinking. In these drawing I am experimenting with automatic drawing, alternating painting, marking and erasing, masking.  Inspired by the book expressive drawing by Steven Aimone.

Pour s’exprimer en art visuel , nous avons un grand choix de possibilités, de médiums. Et aussi de techniques, de manière de penser. Avec ces dessins j’explore la technique du dessin automatiqiue, en alternant, dessiner, marquer, avec effacer, cacher. Inspiré par le livre : expressive drawing par Steven Aimone.

Revisiting portaits

I am revisiting portraits I done for the Julia Kay’s portrait party.

On the left the original portrait on paper, on the right the transformation with the drawing app Procreate, on the iPad. I mixed in some of my pastels, added colours, blended some, highlighted others, just like I would do it on paper.

A gauche, le portrait original sur papier, à droite la transformation fait avec la app de dessin Procreate avec le iPad. J’ai combiné certains de mes pastels, ajouté de la couleur, estompé, rehaussé , comme je le ferai sur papier.

Colourful dust

Pastel and dust goes together and it is hard to control, hard for allergies. I have to find ways to still use it, but not as much. I will try outside, for sure, when the weather permits. For now, I am using it as highlights on watercolor and inks, sometimes, sharpie markers. It opens other possibilities.

Pastel et poussières vont de pair et difficile à controler, dur pour les allergies. Je dois trouver d’autres manières de les utiliser, en moindre quantité. J’essaierai , bien sûr, à l’extérieur quand le temps sera plus doux. Pour l’instant je les utilise en rehaut sur aquarelle, encre et feutre sharpie. Beaucoup de possibilités à découvrir.

Do it, do it, do it…

Do it, do it, do it…the more I do it, the more I hope it becomes natural, the hand following the eye, the mind getting lost in underwater garden.

Fais-le, fais-le, fais-le…plus je le fais, plus j’espère que cela devienne naturel, la main suivant l’oeil, l’esprit se perdant dans des jardins sous-marins.

Pastel and ink

Maureen Nathan, always an inspiration, mixes ink and chalk , pastel in her work  with striking results.

It brings an other challenge, pastel tends to be resistant to water and ink. A little struggle starts between the ink and  pastels giving interesting textures.

C’est un autre défi, le pastel a tendance à resister à l’eau et l’encre. Une petite lutte commence entre l’encre et les pastels donnant des textures interessantes.

About a bouquet

Drawing again and again a subject is not at all boring , it is an exploration of how to say it, or draw it in a new way.

Dessiner encore et encore le même sujet n’est pas du tout ennuyant, c’est une exploration pour le dire ou le dessiner d’une nouvelle manière.
