Looking for the English equivalent of  ” passe-muraille” I found: a theater in Toronto , a book by Marcel Aymé and a film from the book, but no good translation,” The walker-through-walls”  sounds a bit long.

La traduction est un art difficile si non impossible. J’ai entendu “traduction=trahison”. Comment rendre l’athmosphère évoquée par “le passe-muraille” sans avoir à expliquer le livre, le film…

Clouds

Studies of clouds. The first one is on cardboard, the second one on cold pressed water colour paper. I prefer the absorbancy of the cardboard, the way it reacts to water. Cold pressed paper always seems to me a bit water proof. I have tried sanding it,  did not work either.

Etudes de nuages. Le premier est sur du carton, le 2e sur du papier aquarelle pressé à froid. Je préfère l’absorbance du carton, comment il réagit à l’eau. Le papier pressé à froid semble toujours être un peu imperméable. J’ai essayé de le casser en le sablant, résultat non concluant.

Do you have an artist in your life?

I have several artists in my life but today I want to talk about one, my Mom. She had, as it is said, a good hand but never touched a brush after her wedding.  At  87 ,last year, she started back. This is her 4th painting from a picture taken and colored by her Dad . I posted her first painting here . Do you have an artist in your life?  Maybe you will be surprised by an  emergent artist of your entourage.  Could be you, who knows?

J’ai plusieurs artistes dans ma vie mais aujourd’hui  j’aimerais parler d’une en particulier, ma mère. Elle avait , comme on dit, une bonne main mais n’a plus touché à un pinceau après son mariage. A 87 ans, l’année dernière, elle a recommencé. C’est sa 4e peinture, d’après une photo prise et coloriée par son père. J’ai posté sa première peinture ici Avez-vous un artiste dans votre vie? Vous serez peut-être étonné par un  artiste émergeant dans votre entourage. Qui sait, peut-être vous?

Inspired by a line in a poem from Baudelaire “springs soaked in mud”.

I like to think that the ghost of Baudelaire came and participate in dropping my bottle of ink, adding a huge puddle of color, adding a lot of drama. Thank you Charles!

J’aime  penser que le fantome de Baudelaire est venu et a participer en faisant tomber ma bouteille d’encre, ajoutant une énorme flaque de couleur, ajoutant beaucoup d’atmosphère. Merci Charles!

I regret not having sketch more as I start to see the benefit of having a selection of your own sketches to work from.
