Samba

Dance. It was the August theme at il studio. So, for a month I’ve been trying to render the joy of dancing. Samba gives me that impression of pure joy of moving to the music. Not a dancer, I went on youtube and saw beautiful shortly dressed girls showing the world how to samba. Reading the comments, I saw that it is not that easy after all, samba having rules of its own.

Danse. Le thème pour le mois d’aout au studio . Pendant un mois j’ai essayé de dessiner la joie qu’il y a a danser. La samba me donne cette impression de joie a l’etat pure de bouger avec la musique. Ne dansant pas j’ai été voir sur youtube de magnifiques filles court vétues montrant au monde entier comment bouger au rythme de la samba. En lisant les commentaires j’ai vu aussi que ce n’est pas si simple que ça, le monde de la samba ayant ses propres règles.

Doggy-sitting

As a thank you gift, I suppose, for keeping him company (I just can’t use “it” for animals, french habit…) he let me sketch without moving. I did first a contour drawing with a felt pen without looking at the paper. It was going well, then I got the same panicky feeling as when swimming and you realize your feet wont touch the bottom. I stopped without finishing the head. I was pleased to see that I was actually swimming ok.

Pour me remercier de lui avoir tenu compagnie, je pense, il s’est laissé dessiner sans bouger. J’ai commencé par un contour au feutre sans regarder la feuille de papier. Ca allait bien jusqu’a ce que la panique me paralyse, comme la sensation de ne plus avoir pied quand on commence a nager. J’ai arreté sans finir la tête et en regardant j’ai vu que finalement je nageais pas si mal que ça.

Jazz and friends

Study of horses, Jazz and Helmut.

Last week-end, visiting friends in the country I tried sketching horses. They would not stay still, not even a 2mn pose! I had more time with the last drawing, the horses lied down, enjoying the warmth of the sun.

Samedi, dimanche à la campagne chez des amis…belle occasion pour quelques esquisses de chevaux, mais ils ne voulaient pas rester tranquille, même pas de pose de 2mn! J’ai eu plus de temps pour le dernier dessin, les chevaux se sont couchés savourant la chaleur du soleil.

I have an old pastel box from LeFranc-Paris, a wood box with little metal hooks. It was given to me by my grand-mother ( a long time ago…). It is complete, must be 80 years old, with vibrant pigments and in perfect conditions after all these years. I never used them, just looked at the beautiful colours. Finally I tried them in these two drawings.

J’ai une boite ancienne de pastel LeFranc-Paris, une boite en bois avec des petits crochets en métal, donnée par ma grand-mère (il y a pas mal d’années…). Elle est intacte, doit avoir au moins 80 ans, avec des pigments vibrants et en parfait état après toutes ces années. Je ne les ai jamais utilisés, je les admirais. Finalement je me suis décidée a les essayer avec ces deux dessins.
