Tip for drawing portrait for the first time

Remember colouring books? This self-portrait is almost the same. I imported my picture in Procreate, drawing and painting app for Ipad, traced over it on a different layer, and added colours to the line drawing.
A simple way that enables me to forget about proportions and getting it right, and just enjoying painting.
Cheating? No. Tracing over an image is a trick as old as art. Cave artists traced over their owns hands and shadows, renaissance artists, like Canaletto, traced with camera obscura.
A simple thing to do.
Vous vous souvenez des albums à colorier? Cet auto-portrait est comme une page d’album à colorier. J’ai importé ma photo dans Procreate, une application de dessin pour le Ipad, tracé le portrait sur un calque (layer) puis jouer avec les couleurs.
Un processus simple qui me permet d’oublier les proportions pour me concentrer sur les couleurs.
Tricher? Non. Retracer une image est un truc aussi vieux que l’art. Les artistes des cavernes retraçaient leur propre main et des ombres projetées, les artistes de la renaissance, comme Canaletto, retraçait avec la camera obscura.
